Rae Moss, Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Director of Highland Counselling and Psychotherapy Ltd
I have been supporting clients in counselling settings since 2012, with a broad range of presenting issues (such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, confidence, identity, LGBTQ+, relationships, bereavement, trauma). I've been working in private practice since 2018, originally started in Manchester and now in the Scottish Highlands. I work remotely with clients across the globe.
I find particular value in delving into the unconscious and uncovering schemas (mental frameworks to organise experiences and knowledge) which have and continue to shape much of a person's life. Making the unconscious conscious creates staggering shifts in cognitive and emotional well-being. I am also interested in Neuroscience and the ways in which our neurological makeup influences people psychologically.
I have a special interest in working with Neurodivergent clients, including Autistic, AuDHD and ADHD / Kinetic people. Therapy includes normalising ways of processing the world, investigating and neutralising the internal dialogue that speaks to being 'flawed' or 'broken', validating grief, accommodating sensory needs and celebrating special interests. I work with clients in various stages, including questioning / contemplating their neurotype, self-identifying, seeking assessment, during and post-diagnosis. I believe that pursual of formal diagnosis is not for everyone, for various reasons, and support clients with the direction which suits them.

Theoretical basis: Integrative
Practicing from an Integrative model of psychotherapy means I’ve received training through numerous modalities and am continuously diversifying the way I can work with clients. This means that I adapt my practice to the unique needs of each client, facilitating a warm and accepting space for you to talk freely about whatever is going on for you, alongside providing strategies and psychoeducation, looking at patterns of actions and thoughts, guidance around how your history may have influenced unconscious processes and patterns, and understanding how you respond to events within your personal world and in relation to others.
Some of the areas I have trained in include: the Egan Model (Skilled Helper), Psychodynamic, Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis (TA), Polyvagal Theory, the Developmental Model, and the Trauma Rewind technique.
